BIKES FOR A BETTER FUTURE
The Risdon Vale Bike Collective is a multi-faceted initiative, working with young people through:
- Risdon Vale Bike Shed - restoring, maintaining and selling second hand bikes.
- Blue Hills Trails - building and maintaining local riding areas, such as bush trails and a BMX park.
The Risdon Vale Bike Collective exists to create a better future for young people.
We work with local young people to increase work readiness skills, recreational opportunities and to build healthy community around the pursuit of push bikes.
Third Place Communities manages this project in partnership with funding bodies, schools, neighbourhood centres and various local charities and businesses.
RISDON VALE BIKE SHED
RV Bike Shed is a workshop space to help young people build confidence and learn work related skills.
During workshop sessions, young people restore and maintain bikes, which they later sell. This process helps to build necessary skills to prepare for the transition between school and work. It also provides affordable second hand bikes for the community.
BLUE HILL TRAILS
Blue Hill Trails works with, and supports young people to create local riding areas and recreational spaces in Risdon Vale, including mountain bike bush trails and upgrading of the local BMX Park.
While contributing to the local community, participants build confidence and gain valuable insights as they work in a professional environment.
